Climate
Summers are warm and humid while spring days are cool and pleasant. Average summer temperatures range 18 to 32°C. There is no specific rainy season in Germany, but you can expect drizzle in the summer and spring months. The best time to go is from May to October, when the weather is more predictable, however the city will also be crowded with tourists. Winters are often bitter and cold and you can expect snow any time from November to February. Occasional violent storms occur in winter.

Currency
The national currency is the Euro (€).
£1 = €1.34 (an easy way to remember is €10 = £7.50)
$1 = € 0.70 (an easy way to remember is €7 = $10).

Banks are open weekdays, from 8.30 am to 2 pm or 3 pm and have extended banking hours on Thursdays where they close at 5 or 6pm. Bank branches in airports and main train stations are open for much longer, opening at 6.30 am and closing 10.30 pm. Credit cards and traveller’s cheques widely accepted.

Language
German, but English is very widely spoken.

Visa Requirements
UK nationals require a passport. No visa is required for a stay of up to 90 days in six months. US nationals require a passport. A visa is not required for a stay of up to 90 days in six months. If the stay exceeds 90 days, a visa can be obtained after arrival.

Shopping
The Zeil (a pedestrian only street nicknamed The Golden Mile) offers a huge choice, from major department stores to small boutiques.

Most department stores in main shopping areas open at 9 am. and close at 8 pm, Mondays to Fridays. On Saturdays, most shops close early at around 2 or 4 pm, except during summer when shops have extended shopping hours. All stores are closed Sundays, with the exception of some news-stands and bakeries.
