Mari Nicholson
An Award winning writer and photographer and a member of The British Guild of Travel Writers, I have been travelling since I learned how to hitch, at first settling for Europe but then wandering further and further afield. My travels have taken me to Samoa,Tonga, Fiji, Tahiti, Australia and parts of the USA and Canada, but my heart belongs to Asia, Thailand especially, where I try to spend some time every year. I love delving into the culture of the locals, voodoo in New Orleans, spirits in Thailand, ghosts and things that go bump in the night in Hong Kong, and Indian legends in Canada. As well as travel, I write feature articles on things like superstitions, Chinese New Year, wood-carvings, jazz (for which I travel to New Orleans and Chicago) Battlefields of the two World Wars, and mini-histories on things like spirits (of the alcoholic kind) Christmas cards and perfume. My work has been published in most of the UK national newspapers, consumer magazines the UK, Europe and the USA plus the Inflights of the major airlines. I have contributed to books on travel, most recently Body & Soul Escapes (a guide to world spas edited by Caroline Sylge), Where to Go When (Dorling Kindersley) and 1001 Escapes to Make Before you Die (Quintessence). Nowadays I write extensively for the web.
