Hannah Davies is a freelance writer, based in London but frequently on the move. A Cambridge graduate with a degree in Russian and German, she has lived in St Petersburg and Berlin, and has travelled extensively throughout Eastern Europe. Since her parents decamped to Turkey, she has spent an increasing amount of time in the Dalaman region, much of it eating. Her travel experiences are often inspired by her passion for literature, and she is happiest exploring the dark corners of writers’ houses all over the world. She has written on books and literary culture for, among others, the New Statesman and the Guardian, and used to work at the London Review of Books. Her travel ambition is to embark on a rail journey that lives up to her romantic expectations: so far her time on the tracks has involved evading vodka-soaked Russian businessmen on the Red Star to Moscow and being flung from her bunk in Vietnam when the train hit a cow.
